It's about dang time--OtakuZone Unofficial Fanpage's Now Open! [18 Mar 2010|10:56pm]
Hey everyone! I just created a fan group for The Star's Otakuzone (in case you don't know, it's the weekly animation, comics and games section in The Star every Sunday) over at Facebook ! Click >>>HERE<<< to get there (and don't forget to click the join button!)

Other than that, I'd really appreciate if all ACG fans will help spread the word and get all OtakuZone readers to join that page...let's get the thing movin', dudes! I'd bet there's still thousands and thousands out there that should know about the existence of the page, so it's all up to YOU to get the news out! Let's make that page lively!

Brushing dust off my Livejournal [29 Oct 2009|11:14pm]
Hello all, it's been a while since I posted. Missed me? Hehe. Some of you might be updated on what I have been up to, most of you wouldn't. Well, for those curious here's how I was these few months.

I've graduated (safely) and started my working life. I missed first class honours by 0.0015 CGPA, but the trauma has mostly subsided by now. That's majorly helped by the fact that no one has ever asked about my degree ever since I started working! I suppose that the notion of an academic qualification is not spectacularly important is somewhat true in this respect.

What am I working as? Mostly as a writer, dabbling in a variety of different forms of writing. I'm now doing event coverage, book reviews, interviews, anime reviews, and soon some scriptwriting. Some editorial jobs too, providing some editorial direction on some stuffles. All freelance and it's all quite well, just damn busy. I tell you freelancing is a damn misnomer-busylancing would be a more proper term. Freelancing is giving up a 9-5 job for a 12-12 job. Kanasai. And delayed payments are delayed.

But I'm happy to say freelancing has its perks too. The reason I've been working so hard is to achieve that dream of mine which some of you should be familiar with, and I'm glad to say in the span of these few months I've stepped that much closer to the eventual goal of mine. Being in the publication business helps, and doing many different jobs by freelancing sure does give a wide perspective of how things work. I'm working really hard now, voraciously absorbing everything and anything of use I come across so I can do what I wanna do.

I really really want to start a comic/storytelling newsletter-the last one attempt fell apart due to commitment issues. Everyone's busy with work, but I  suppose things have to start somewhere. I'm thinking hard everyday to see whether there's any possible financial support for such a newsletter-I know it's really difficult for people to commit when they have problems feeding their own stomachs as well. I suppose worse comes to worst I'll just have to fork out 1k myself each issue if it comes to it-I really want to see some life, communication and coherency injected in our local creative scene. I guess I'll just have to work harder for it. Sigh, life is such a cruel thing.

I've gotten myself an awesome camera for work related purposes- a Panasonic LX-3, about the best compact you can get sans the micro4/3rds or G11. Been training myself hard on photography and all, so if there's any need for a nice camera and photography ring me up!

I'm always on the look for writers as well, mainly to give out a bit of the writing jobs I have. Preferably those that are billingual in both English and Chinese, as I have quite a few translation jobs lined up too. Anyone interested do tell me-I have just a small amount now but it might grow soon as work rolls in.

Had some pay and spent almost 1k on new clothes, cause of all the VIP seeing and client meetings and whatnots. Something long overdue, but better late than never ne? Having money is so good =3

Well that's all folks! The life of Ezel for 2009. I can say it was pretty exciting, and I look forward to the challenges the future brings!

p.s I'm looking to expand my fields of writing and to gain more experience, so if there's any writing jobs of any sort do dump them over here yeah! =)

Hello! [21 Jul 2009|05:38pm]

Some of you might know, or some of you might not, but I currently freelance for an art magazine named ArtMalaysia.

As of now, we're running a section named "Voices", where the public can have a chance to voice out their opinion to all readers about the Question of the Issue. I would love it if you all can contribute. Just your thoughts and all, and your views will be published in the mag along with your name/profession/age, if you so choose.

Help me out here, wont you? 8D

But anyway, here is the Question of the Issue.

What is your opinion of local art?

The Times a Changin' [20 Mar 2009|11:40pm]
Today I drove through a road that I have driven past about a thousand times before. It was a homely kind of road, littered with tall trees and sun-blackened shacks on one side and semi-detached houses of various styles on the other. Cruising down the road often evokes in me a sense of peace and comfort, as blurs of familiar houses and proud trees breeze past.

Today, the reassuring silhouettes of the rag-tag huts are no more, and freshly cut stumps are the only remnants of the once-majestic trees that have stood guard along the trail for decades. The sky, once clothed with a mesh of leaves and branches now stands awkwardly exposed, covered only partly by strange new structures of steel and concrete.

Funny, how something that has existed for all your life can just be gone in a single instant. Even when it is only something as insignificant as the scenery on my way home, it still fills me with a weird, unsettling sense of emptiness.

Do you, too, sometimes feel that the world is perhaps moving a little tad too fast for your liking?

A fascinating Question. [16 Mar 2009|12:26am]
Does anyone else have a problem processing more than 2 negatives in a sentence?

Like " I don't want to not believe that this world isn't round."?

I know that the answer should be relatively simple, and that I should be able to process out the meaning. But I end up endlessly fascinated about this sentence resulting in an inability to intuitively understand it. Weird.

Dragonball: Evolution [14 Mar 2009|04:46pm]
Today, I spent eleven perfectly good ringgit watching a disaster on the big screen.

It was shorter than usual, only about 1 and a half hour. That's good, because being short is about the only virtue the film posesses. Well, that and also having the screen filled with jiggling half exposed boobs every other minute, but I was too busy cringing at the dialogue to notice.

The secret police could probably introduce "watching Dragonball:Evolution" as their new torture program. So damn painful.

Brain is shutting down from the trauma.

See, this is what happens when you fanboy too much. [28 Feb 2009|12:19pm]
One of my favorite characters popped out of nowhere saving the main character after a stint of not appearing like....forever, confessed the secret crush she had for him for like the past 3-4 years, then had a gruesome, bloody death. All in the 19 pages of one chapter.

If reading stories were like eating beef, this is something like swallowing an entire cow into your mouth in one go.

40 smart mantras to live by

Life is full of challenges from money issues to family relationships and all the other stresses in between. Here are some great mantras to master in life. Stay happy, stay well.

Mantra For Good Health:
1. Drink plenty of water.
2. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
3. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.
4. Live with the 3 E’s — Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.
5. Make time to practice meditation, yoga, and prayer.
6. Play more games.
7. Read more books than you did in 2008.
8. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
9. Sleep for 7 hours.

Mantra For A Great Personality:
11. Don’t compare your life to others’ lives. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

21. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

Your dominant hue is blue, making you a good friend who people love and trust. You're good in social situations and want to fit in. Just be careful not to compromise who you are to make them happy.

Your saturation level is very low - you have better things to do than jump headfirst into every little project. You make sure your actions are going to really accomplish something before you start because you hate wasting energy making everyone else think you're working.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.
